Goodbye, Einstein

 What an awful few weeks.

When we brought Edison and Einstein home 10 years ago, we never would have imagined we'd lose both of them so close together. Edison had poor health for about 5 years before passing. Einstein, on the other hand. had been very healthy overall. We weren't expecting to have to say goodbye so soon.

A week ago she had some type of episode. We're not sure if it was a stroke or a seizure, bur she couldn't walk well and seemed to have lost her vision and possibly hearing at one point, as well. A stay at the vet hospital and $1k later and we still had no real answers.

To complicate matters, she had a bad tooth that we were waiting for her to be seen for. So she wasn't really able to eat which made it harder for her to regain her strength. After coming home she showed a bit of improvement, but it wasn't enough to justify prolonging her suffering.

We finally got her in to see our vet and the vet agreed there wasn't much to be done for her. Ben and Gabe had taken her in knowing that was a possibility. They stayed with her while she was put down. It was really tough for both of them.

They brough her body home and Ben dug a hole for her next to Edison. We just happen to have two matching stepping stones which we placed on each grave. Ben was heartbroken, saying she looked so peaceful. It didn't seem right to push the dirt over on top of her while she looked like she was sleeping.

Last pic I took of her.

We loved the way Einstein "blurpped" when we pet her. We loved how much she loved to snuggle with us and would spend most of her day going from one person to the next just sitting with them. We loved her small size - she looked like a kitten her whole life. We loved her sweet, friendly nature and are so, so sad we couldn't have more time with her.
