Light Show

We kept seeing advertisements for a new light show at a farm less than 10 minutes from us. We're always looking for something new to do and this had the added benefit of being close to home. So we bought our tickets, bundled up, and went!

The weather ended up being in the low 50s which was good because the entire experience is outdoors. I'm not sure we would have gone if it had been much colder.

Parking was ample and well organized. They had attendants to welcome each car, scan tickets, and keep things moving. We parked in a large gravel lot and then wound our way though a path to the ticket booth and checkpoint.

There were no crowds and no wait time for us. Buying our tickets ahead of time really helped here. We bypassed several groups of people who were having to buy tickets on site. Also, we're pretty used to only bringing the bare minimum and not keeping things like pocket knives on us. There are metal detectors and guards and some other people were hung up trying to get through.

Everything was well organized. They could handle large crowds, if needed.

After breezing through the checkpoint, we followed a winding, well-lit path to the exhibit entrance. There's a staging area at the exhibit entrance where you can visit the restrooms, buy a drink, or sit for a while. It's located in an open pavilion so not warm, exactly, but there are heaters and firepits.

When you're ready, you can head over to the entry point. The entrance times are staggered to keep people from bunching up. There's an attendant who welcomes everyone, gives them some tips and pointers, and then lets them through.

From that point on, it was a self-guided tour. We followed the gravel path to 4 different light and sound experiences. Each was unique in their own way. It was very mystical, ethereal, and unique. Not Christmasy at all. Which was fine, but because it's a light show during the Christmas season, some people might assume it's Christmasy and be disappointed. We enjoyed it.

It's good to know that there is a lot of walking involved between each experience. The paths are well-maintained gravel paths. Not stroller friendly. They also do a good job of providing enough light so you can see where you're going, but not so much that it ruins the effect. I thought it was perfect, but some may feel it's not bright enough.

We walked in a loop so that we were nearish the pavilion after the last experience. We stopped in for a few minutes to visit the restrooms and sit on the benches for a bit. It was very peaceful.

I'm glad we decided to give this a try. I have a feeling it's going to catch on and subsequent years will be really busy. We're not ones to do any event yearly but I'd be happy to see it again in a few years. It was really well done and very unique.

3.5 year old did great - even with all of the walking. She did get antsy at a few of the lower experiences, but it was also bedtime.

The moon was the real showstopper
