Gabe's Gingerbread Outhouse
I guess all of those years of Ben decorating gingerbread with the boys started something.
Gabe decided to decorate gingerbread this year, but he wanted to take it up a notch. So he designed a template and then baked a sheet of gingerbread and then cut the pattern using the laser cutter. His friend, Chloe, helped in the planning, baking, and decorating.
What's Christmas without a gingerbread outhouse?
I was really impressed with the amount of research that went into this. He had to figure out the aesthetics and dimension of the outhouse. He had to find a recipe that would be good for cutting. Then he had to make sure it was cut to the right depth so that the pieces would pop out without breaking or crumbling. All of that before they even got to assembling and decorating. It was a two day process.
Oh, and if you're wondering, gingerbread does not smell good when being cut by a laser. It's the worst burnt cookie smell you've ever smelled in your life. So there's that.
These kids worked hard. It's so fun to see them combine their skills to create something. I love this age!
The picture doesn't show it, but there's a little platform with a potty hole inside |
