First Day

Our First Day of School was a big success!

And by "success" I mean that we finished all of our work with minimal complaining!

It's truly the little things.

Despite the fact that I haven't had any personal interaction with "real" school since the end of 3rd grade, there is still a strong pull to do school the traditional way. Backpacks bulging with new supplies, jokes included in packed lunches, and pictures on the front stoop.

But, we're homeschoolers so there's very little about what we do that's traditional. We rarely use backpacks, we don't pack lunches, we don't have a bus stop. There's no registration, no yearly check-ups, no shopping for mountains of supplies.

We have absolutely no need for an annual "back-to-school" orientation, either. Can you imagine? Meet-the-teacher, finding your locker, memorizing the best route to class. Hahaha. None of these things have any meaning to us in our cozy, homey world.

Our principal is pretty cute, tho.

Anyway, here's our first official 2018-2019 back-to-school pictures.

We're doing 3 subjects together which is nice. I know there will come a point when they're completely independent. That will be really nice in some ways, but I'll miss it, too.

So, that's a snapshot our very homeschoolerish first day of school. Interject some random heated discussions about Fortnite, lots of snacks, and lunch picnics, and that's pretty much a typical day around here!
