Yellowstone Vacation Day 5: Cody, WY

Wed. Aug. 17th

Today was mostly a driving day.

We drove through ND and MT, and then down into WY, ending up in Cody.

After booking our hotel we decided to hit up Wal-Mart for more snacks and supplies and some extra ponchos. I was pleasantly surprised at their selection of gluten-free snacks. And the gluten-free bread they carry is the best I've ever had! Oh, and they had kombucha, too!

We loaded up, realized it was later that we thought, and headed straight over to the Cody Stampede Park for our first (and probably the last) rodeo.

The announcer started the evening off with prayer which was really refreshing. Unfortunately, several of the jokes and remarks over the course of the evening were inappropriate which really turned me off.

There was a good deal of advertising. Dairy Queen was mentioned several times which became something of a joke the rest of the trip. We Nolens love ourselves a good running joke.

Neither boy wanted to participate in the calf scramble which was fine with me. It was hilarious to watch, though. They had the kids stretch, roll around in the dirt, and then put a handful of dirt in their pockets. Hahahahaha. I'm sure their parents loved that.

The barrel racing was my favorite. The calf roping was my least-favorite. Poor babies!

The night went on and on and when it finally wrapped up we were glad to get back to the hotel. It's nice to try new things and I can now say, "Yes, I've been to a rodeo," but it was just okay for me. It kept the boy's attention and they enjoyed it well enough, but I don't think we have any future bull riders on our hands. Thank goodness. ;)
