Fall's Finally Here

It really feels like Fall, now.

The trees are beautiful, the yard is buried in leaves, and we had our first bonfire. So, it's official, it's Fall!

On Thursday night I met up with the bestie to celebrate her birthday. I was pretty proud of the gift I gave her. I need to get a picture of it! We ate a quick dinner and then did some shopping.

Friday, after enrichment classes, we played board games at Paul and Amanda's. I usually wimp out and head home around 10, but I stayed late this time. It was fun, but I was exhausted the next morning and ended up sleeping in.

I dragged Karen with me to an appreciation event thrown by my chiropractor. There were various vendors there who were giving out samples and freebies. Hand massages, foot massages, facials, chocolate, essential oils, etc. It was nice.

We were supposed to have a big bonfire that evening, but people weren't able to make it and Gabe was feeling a bit under the weather. We made a small fire in the fire pit and made smore's. Karen, Don, and Tim came over. It was pretty cold so we didn't stay out for long. Went inside and played a few board games.

We drove down to De Soto on Sunday to celebrate the recent wedding of my brother, Josh. They didn't have a wedding so my Dad wanted to do something for them.

My sister had the idea to try and incorporate a few Ukrainian wedding traditions into the mix to make our new sister-in-law feel welcome. I thought that was a sweet idea and agreed to make a dessert.

I found a website with lots of Ukrainian and Russian recipes and chose a cookie recipe. I had the foresight to make a test batch early in the week and it's a good thing I did. I'm going to do another post on the cookies so I won't go into it here, but the first batch was awful. I had to scramble to make a second batch later in the week. I'm honestly not sure my sister-in-law noticed the cookies so it seemed like a lot of hassle for nothing, but the kids at the party seemed to like them so there's that. I'm not a baker anyway and haven't baked with wheat flour in.....years. So it was interesting.

It was also decided that we would do family pictures. This makes sense since we were all going to be together and the weather is nice. It did make for a long day and added more stress to the event because my sister wanted our clothes to coordinate. Again, I agree with this in principle, but it was stressful trying to come up with clothes for 4 people that fell within the 5 or so predetermined colors without spending a lot of money.

Anywho, Sunday arrived and the cookies were made and the outfits were put together and the party was nice. The food was good. Could not have asked for better weather! The photographs were a nice bonus for my brother because they didn't have an professional pictures taken on their wedding day so they were able to make up for that a bit.

While the newlyweds were getting their pictures taken, I pulled out my camera and got some pictures, too.

The pro photographer got several good pictures with  my grandparents and great-great Aunt Helen. Unfortunately, the older folks were not in much of a picture taking mood so I don't think we got any with them and the boys. I'll get them at Christmas (insert evil cackle here).

We finally got home and chilled the rest of the evening. Gabe still had a bit of a cough and my allergies were awful. I honestly can't remember a single thing we did, I was so tired. I think we ate leftovers and went to bed early!
