Learning to Be the Light

Christmas isn't over.

I know the shreds of Christmas paper still littering the house and half-eaten trays of goodies would suggest otherwise, but for us who believe, it's never over. We take this time every year to celebrate with a little more focus, but it never really ends. The first Christmas, 2000 years ago wasn't the whole story. Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men, angels, Herod, and baby Jesus aren't the only characters. See, God didn't just step down into our story with us, he now invites us to participate. He started a new chapter in the story and we get to help write the rest.

When the stars came crashing down
In tiny pieces to the ground
I was all alone down here
Trapped beneath the atmosphere
Then I, thought somebody called my name
I spun around and caught a flame
I gave into a God I didn't know
And now everything is falling into place
A brand new life is calling and I owe it all to grace

It's so much brighter living in Your world
Savior, what You did for me
You gave me something I want everyone to see
When we struggle and it all goes wrong
Only You can make it right
So I say
Oh oh oh oh oh
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa

When a heart is cold as ice
You can't melt it with advice
No one wants to listen to
A list of things they shouldn't do
So I build a city on a hill
And I light a candle on the sill
Knowing You'll be always knocking at the door
Oh God I just want to love on everyone
All I have is Yours to give so let the people come

It's so much brighter living in Your world
Savior what You did for me
You gave me something I want everyone to see
When we struggle and it all goes wrong
Only You can make it right
So I say
Oh oh oh oh oh
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light

That makes the shadows hide
The light that breaks the curse of pride
The light that takes the weary in its arms

When it all came crashing down
There was only darkness all around
But in the distance I could see
A flame

It's so much brighter living in Your world
Savior what You did for me
You gave me something I want everyone, I mean everyone to see
When we struggle and it all goes wrong
Only You can make it right
So I say
Oh oh oh oh oh
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light
Whoa, whoa
I'm learning to be the light!

Learning to Be the Light by Newworldson

I don't know about you, but the thought of being allowed into the story is about as exciting as the Christmas story itself. And about as unbelievable. It doesn't make sense to me, but I believe it to be true and I'm humbled and blessed that he draws me close to him and gives me - and you! - a part to play. I'm praying he teaches me what it means to participate, what it means to be the light. I pray he leads me and guides me into playing the part I've been given to the very best of my ability. To recognize what a blessing I've been given and to take complete advantage of it.

Merry Christmas.

Today and every day.
