GAPS Diet: 6 Month Update

I looked at the calendar and realized that at the end of this week we'll mark 6 months on GAPS! Wow. I think it actually went by pretty fast! It hasn't always been easy, but I can say for sure that it's been worthwhile. Almost every complaint we had prior to starting GAPS has diminished or disappeared completely. We still have a ways to go, but I'm grateful for the progress we've made so far.

Here's where I think we need further healing:

Teeth health. Luke has now had two good dental appointments. Gabe had two cavities. I added fermented cod liver/butter oil into our daily diet so I'm hoping that gives us the boost we need. We shall see. Ben still has some gum pockets that require deep cleaning, and I actually have yet to have my teeth checked so not sure what the status there is.

Yeast. I may still have oral yeast issues. My tongue has a bit of white, but I've read that can also be due to dehydration which is something I fall victim to easily.

Post-nasal Drip. While this is NOWHERE as bad as it used to be, Luke and I both still suffer from this from time to time. It's not fun.

Allergies. I'm completely off all allergy meds. Luke has Zyrtec maybe once a week. He actually seems to do better around dogs. Certain fruits and veggies can still make his throat itch. I believe our post nasal drip is due to allergies, as well.

Arm Bumps. Gabe and Ben still have lots of little bumps on their arms and Gabe has it on his legs, as well. In fact, this is probably the one symptom that has not improved at all, now that I think of it.

My goals for the next 6 months are to simply do what we've been doing. I'm not going to bother trying to add in anything at this time because we've been seeing so much improvement. I don't want to stunt our growth. I especially want our dental health to be up to 100%. I've read so much lately on the dangers of fillings and root canals. I don't want the boys to have to go through all of that.

Here are my concerns/complaints on the diet:

I'm bone-tired of cooking all of the time. I've been buying some things like Applegate Farms hotdogs for quick lunches when we are busy. I'm also extremely bored with the foods we are eating. There's not much variety.

Another issue I've been trying to get a handle on is the whole carbs thing. GAPS can be too low carb if you aren't careful. I'm trying to make sure we all keep our carbs up. Especially since I suspect some adrenal fatigue issues in myself.

Overall, the diet has been great for our family and I'm really grateful God brought this diet into our lives. It has given us a lot of healing and hope. It's helped us learn to listen to and respect our bodies. We're more careful about getting rest and drinking water, spending time outside, etc. I've enjoyed our journey so far and am excited to see where 6 more months takes us!
