Sometimes Less is Best

For the longest time I had an old basket on my desk which held all my office supplies. It was fine. It got the job done. But it was such an eyesore! I had a handful of Sharpies, several pencils, tape, white-out, 2 calculators, a couple of calligraphy pens and refills, more ink pens than any human should own at one time, glue, glue sticks...ahem, you get the idea. I didn't really like how this mess looked or functioned, but I just sort of put up with it.

Until my Christmas present from my mom. She gave me the cutest little basket, decorated with owls, containing 2 pads of paper, a small notebook, 2 pens, post-it notes, a cute pair of pink-handled scissors, and some tape. I was in heaven! And it made me realize that I didn't need all that other stuff! I placed my cute new basket on my desk, transferred a few items from the messy old basket, tucked the old basket downstairs with my craft items...and problem solved.

The funny thing is that the messy basket actually has 4 compartments, making it, in theory, an ideal storage solution. The problem was that it was TOO big and ended up as a collection for anything and everything - most of which were things not used on a day-to-day basis! Because the new basket it smaller, it fits on my desk perfectly, and it can only contain the things I really need. Nothing more, nothing less!
