File Cabinet Face Lift

Mail, receipts, and paperwork have long been a pesky nuisance in our house. We had some stashed here, a few stashed there. When we had people over, I'd cram them into a basket and shove it in one of the kitchen cabinets. It was really starting to get on my nerves.

One of my resolutions this year was to face those types of pesky problems head-on. No more ignoring the problem! The catch is that one of my other resolutions is to try to save money and make do with what we have. Hmmm...

The simplest solution was to lug our ugly filing cabinet upstairs, where my desk and computer are, except that it is a large, 3-door filing cabinet, and it's pretty much the only thing we have to set our printer on. So I procrastinated a bit and guess what? Sometimes procrastination pays off!

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I ended up finding another, smaller, filing cabinet in the dark corners of our basement. It's a sad day when you find something in your home that you've forgotten you owned in the first place. Oops. So I lugged the little guy upstairs, cleaned him up, gave him a quick facelift, and set him in place.

The best part? The face lift was FREE! I simply unscrewed the handles, painted the door fronts with Mod Podge, and then applied two pieces of different, but coordinating scrapbook paper - all stuff I already had. I would LOVE to replace the handles with some cool stainless steel handles, but, you know, that whole try-to-make-do-with-what-you-have thing.

So, whaddya think?

  2. I don't know exactly what it's called. You know - stumble upon? There's a button you can hit called "I like it!" and they ask if it's safe for work and then thank you for the submission. So when someone hits their stumble button, they may end up on your page one day =)
